Sakrete Concrete Calculator

Bag counts for SAKRETE® High-Strength, 5000 Plus, Fast Setting, Crack Resistant and Maximizer using the yield printed on each product's technical data sheet.

Quick answer

A 10×10 ft slab at 4 in needs 56 × 80 lb Sakrete High-Strength bags (33.33 ft³ ÷ 0.6 ft³ per bag, rounded up) — 59 bags with 5% waste. The same pour is 75 × 60 lb bags, 88 × 50 lb Fast Setting bags, or 37 × 80 lb Maximizer bags. Yields come from Sakrete technical data sheets fetched 2026-10-17; the bag math is our own concrete bag formula.

5% covers spillage and uneven subgrade on bagged pours.

Sakrete's sheets describe these yields as approximate and not including waste or spillage. Always check the yield printed on your bag. We do not list retail prices on this page.

Computed bag chart: common slabs (0% waste)

Volume from TrueToolCalc concreteBag; bag count = ceil(ft³ ÷ Sakrete yield). HS = High-Strength. Add your waste allowance on top.

5000 Plus 60 lb (0.47 ft³) takes 71 bags for the 10×10×4 in slab and 103 for 12×12×4 in. Maximizer 40 lb (0.46 ft³) takes 73 and 105.

Bags per cubic yard and coverage per bag (computed)

Fence posts: Sakrete's chart vs our cylinder math

Sakrete column from the Fast Setting data sheet (10 in diameter hole, 50 lb bags). Our columns: hole volume from TrueToolCalc concreteColumn; post column subtracts a 4×4 post (3.5 × 3.5 in actual) over the same depth; ÷ 0.38 ft³ per bag.
Hole depthHole volumeBags, empty holeBags, minus 4×4 postSakrete chart
12 in0.545 ft³1.441.211.25
18 in0.818 ft³2.151.822
24 in1.091 ft³2.872.422.5
30 in1.364 ft³3.593.033

Our post-subtracted figures sit within 0.2 bag of Sakrete's chart, which suggests the chart assumes a post in the hole (the sheet does not say which size). For an empty sonotube-style hole, use the larger column. More hole sizes are on our fence post concrete guide.

Worked example: 12×12 patio, three Sakrete options

Job: 12 ft × 12 ft patio, 4 in thick, 5% waste.

  1. Volume: 12 × 12 × (4 ÷ 12) = 48.00 ft³ (1.78 yd³)
  2. High-Strength 80 lb: 48 ÷ 0.6 × 1.05 = 84.0 → 84 bags
  3. High-Strength 60 lb: 48 ÷ 0.45 × 1.05 = 112.0 → 112 bags
  4. Maximizer 80 lb: 48 ÷ 0.92 × 1.05 = 54.8 → 55 bags

At almost 1.8 yd³ this pour is past the point where hand-mixing bags is practical for most people — get a ready-mix quote too. Same footprint with Quikrete yields: see the Quikrete concrete calculator.

Formula

Volume(ft³) = length(ft) × width(ft) × thickness(in) ÷ 12
Bags = Volume(ft³) ÷ Sakrete yield × (1 + waste%) — always rounded up

This is the same method Sakrete prints on its data sheets (length × width × thickness ÷ 12, then divide by the yield). It uses the same geometry as our concrete bag calculator; the difference is that the yield menu is locked to Sakrete-published numbers.

Limitations

  • Rectangular area of uniform depth only. For round piers or post holes, get the volume from the column calculator and divide by your bag's yield.
  • Yields are approximate per Sakrete and exclude waste and spillage; uneven subgrade can add more.
  • Sakrete recommends its concrete mixes for applications 2 in thick and over; thinner toppings need a different product.

FAQ

How many 80 lb Sakrete bags for a 10x10 slab 4 inches thick?

Volume is 10 × 10 × (4 ÷ 12) = 33.33 ft³. Sakrete High-Strength Concrete Mix lists 0.6 ft³ per 80 lb bag, so 33.33 ÷ 0.6 = 55.56 → 56 bags before waste, 59 bags with 5% waste.

How many Sakrete bags make a cubic yard?

One cubic yard is 27 ft³. At the published yields: 45 × 80 lb High-Strength bags (0.6 ft³), 60 × 60 lb (0.45 ft³), 90 × 40 lb (0.30 ft³), about 41 × 90 lb (0.66 ft³), about 72 × 50 lb Fast Setting or Crack Resistant bags (0.38 ft³) and about 30 × 80 lb Maximizer bags (0.92 ft³). Round up when you buy.

How many bags of Sakrete Fast Setting per fence post?

Sakrete's Fast Setting data sheet lists 1.25 bags (50 lb) for a 10 in diameter hole 12 in deep, 2 bags at 18 in, 2.5 bags at 24 in and 3 bags at 30 in. Our own cylinder math lands within 0.2 bag of those figures once a 4×4 post is subtracted.

Why does Sakrete Maximizer need fewer bags?

Maximizer is a lightweight-aggregate mix. Its data sheet lists 0.92 ft³ per 80 lb bag versus 0.6 ft³ for High-Strength, so the same 10×10×4 in slab takes 37 Maximizer bags instead of 56 before waste.

Is the Sakrete calculator the same as the Quikrete calculator?

The geometry is the same; only the yield per bag changes. At 80 lb both brands publish 0.6 ft³. At 90 lb Sakrete lists 0.66 ft³ and Quikrete 0.675 ft³, so a 10×10×4 in slab is 51 Sakrete bags versus 50 Quikrete bags.
